It was pretty common for nightclubs to host the groups that played the current club favorites. You may have heard of Grace Jones, Martha Wash (everybody, everybody) and Crystal Waters (la da dee la da da - she's homeless), but it was the likes of Deee-Lite (groove is in the heart) and The Alpha Team (rave version of speed racer) that packed the houses.
In a rare bit of cooperation between duelling nightclubs, it was common for these groups to play at different places on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend.I'm sure the recording artists loved that.
On different weekends, I met Deee-Lite and Ru Paul three times.
